In commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, PT Semen Indonesia International (SII), in collaboration with MAPALA Teknisi FT of Makassar State University, organized a planting of 2,500 mangroves along the coastal area of Untia Marine Tourism Beach, Bringkanaya, Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The event, held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, involved engineering students from Makassar State University, local community members, and SII employee representatives.
Trisandi, the Finance Director of SII, stated in his speech at the 79th Independence Day celebration in Jakarta that the mangrove planting is not just a symbolic act to commemorate independence but also a tangible expression of our love for the homeland. Mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems and protecting our coastlines from the threat of erosion. This mangrove planting movement also supports SIG's Green Solutions innovation for a sustainable future.
The mangroves planted were Rhizophora Mucronata, known for their high resilience to coastal conditions and significant ecological benefits. The planting was carried out with a spirit of togetherness, accompanied by collective prayers for the success and preservation of these trees. It is hoped that with the planting of these 2,500 mangroves, the coastal area of Untia Beach will become stronger in facing various natural challenges and serve as a symbol of the spirit of independence while also supporting SIG's Green Solutions innovation for the future.
